Hear the Recording Without the Distraction
Play the same passage before and after background noise reduction. Listen for less environmental sound, then check the speaker's quiet words, breaths and natural tone before deciding which version to keep.
What Background Noise Is in Your Recording?
Background noise sits around or behind the wanted sound. Identify where it appears and whether it stays steady before judging the preview.
- 01
Fan and air conditioning
A steady mechanical sound remains underneath speech across most of the recording.
- 02
Traffic and street sound
Cars, movement and changing outdoor activity compete with an interview or phone recording.
- 03
Wind and outdoor ambience
Broad moving air and environmental sound overlap a voice captured outside.
- 04
Keyboard and household activity
Short taps, movement and everyday home or office sounds interrupt otherwise useful speech.
- 05
Room tone and microphone hiss
A continuous low-level bed is easiest to hear during pauses and quiet words.
Reduce the Background Without Hiding the Voice
The useful result is not necessarily the quietest one. When traffic, wind or another speaker overlaps the same frequencies as the voice, removing more noise can also remove consonants, breaths and natural tone.
Start in Auto and compare a noisy passage with the softest important words before downloading.
Compare the actual preview. These values illustrate the decision, not a guaranteed measurement.
Choose the Content Type Behind the Noise
An interview, meeting, phone recording, podcast and music demo contain different useful details. Start with Auto, or choose the closest source when you know it.
There is no separate denoise-strength control here. The preview is where you decide whether enough noise was reduced without damaging the wanted sound.

Where Does Background Noise Removal Make the Biggest Difference?
Choose the situation closest to your recording. Each workflow identifies the environmental sound behind the source, the voice or detail worth protecting, and the section you should preview before downloading.
DENOISE WORKFLOW Podcasts & voiceovers
Keep the spoken track in front of fans, computers and household noise.
- What sits behind the voiceComputer cooling, air conditioning and household room tone can form a steady bed beneath an otherwise clear narration.
- What to protectReduce the background while keeping consonants, breaths and the natural presence that makes a voiceover sound close rather than over-filtered.
- What to comparePreview one quiet sentence, a breath and the noisiest pause. Keep the result only when the words are clearer without watery or metallic artifacts.

DENOISE WORKFLOW Interviews & meetings
Make every answer easier to follow in a shared or imperfect room.
- What competes with speechVentilation, laptops, chairs and people moving nearby can mask softer answers even when the main speaker remains audible.
- Describe the conversationChoose Interview, Meeting or Conference so the processor has a closer description of the speech and environment it should protect.
- Know the boundaryCheck names, numbers and quiet replies. Environmental sound may be reduced, but another person speaking at the same time cannot be reliably removed as ordinary noise.

DENOISE WORKFLOW Courses & lectures
Let the lesson lead instead of classroom, laptop and ventilation noise.
- What remains through the lessonLaptop cooling, classroom ambience and steady ventilation can stay audible for an entire explanation, especially between sentences.
- Prioritize intelligibilityChoose Lecture when it matches the recording. The goal is easier listening and clearer information—not a completely silent, unnatural room.
- Review teaching detailsListen to technical terms, sentence endings and moments when the speaker turns away from the microphone before publishing the course.

DENOISE WORKFLOW Phone & outdoor audio
Reduce changing wind and traffic around a mobile recording.
- What changes around the voiceWind, passing vehicles and crowd movement can rise and fall suddenly around speech captured with a phone or small camera microphone.
- Use the closest capture typeChoose Mobile for a phone recording, or the closest speech profile for an outdoor interview. Test both the strongest gust and a calmer section.
- Keep realistic expectationsStrong wind can overlap speech across a wide frequency range. Compare important words carefully because processing cannot reconstruct detail the microphone never captured.

DENOISE WORKFLOW Video soundtracks
Clean distracting sound from a clip before rebuilding the final video.
- Listen beyond the pictureCamera microphones can capture wind, handling noise, traffic or room tone that is easy to overlook while attention stays on the visuals.
- Process the soundtrackUpload the video and choose the content type closest to its dialogue or source. AudioMuse processes the readable audio track and returns audio.
- Finish with the original videoKeep the source video, check sync-critical dialogue and quiet cuts, then replace or resync the cleaned soundtrack before exporting the final picture.

Background Noise, Echo, Buzz or Background Music?
These problems can sound similar at first, but they do not use the same workflow.
Background Noise Remover
Use this page for fans, traffic, wind, room tone, keyboards and surrounding activity.
Echo Remover
Use Echo & Reverb when the wanted voice sounds hollow or continues after each phrase.
Remove Buzz from Audio
Use the focused buzz guide for equipment hum or a persistent tonal sound.
Background Music Remover
Use source separation when you want to remove instrumental backing from a mixed song.
Audio Cleaner
Start with the broader diagnosis page when the recording sounds rough but the cause is not obvious.
Background Noise Removal Cannot Rebuild Missing Sound
It cannot guarantee separation of simultaneous speakers, restore clipped words or completely remove a loud sound that covers the wanted recording.
Keep and compare the original
Listen to quiet speech, breaths, cymbals and reverb tails. If those details disappear, the cleaner result is not necessarily the better result.
Remove Background Noise from Audio questions
What counts as background noise?
Background noise is environmental sound behind the recording, such as fans, traffic, wind, room tone, keyboard taps or household activity.
Can I remove background noise from video?
You can upload supported video formats and process the soundtrack. Keep the original video file for your final video workflow.
Can it remove wind noise?
It can reduce some wind and outdoor sound, but strong gusts often overlap speech across a wide frequency range and may remain audible.
Can it remove other people talking?
Not reliably. Another voice overlaps the same frequencies as the speaker you want, so noise reduction cannot guarantee speaker separation.
Is background noise removal the same as echo removal?
No. Background noise is another sound behind the recording. Echo and reverb are reflections of the wanted voice and should use the Echo & Reverb mode.
Does background noise removal work for music?
It can be tested on music demos and rehearsals. Choose the Music content type and compare quiet passages, cymbals, reverb tails and high-frequency detail before keeping the result.
Why can processed audio sound hollow?
When background noise overlaps speech or music, aggressive processing can remove wanted detail too. Start in Auto and preview the quietest parts before downloading.
Is background noise the same as background music?
No. Background noise is unwanted environmental sound. Background music is part of a song or mixed recording and requires source separation rather than ordinary noise reduction.
How are processing credits calculated?
New-plan rate: 10 credits per started minute, with a minimum of 30 credits per file to process the full recording. Sufficient eligible credits are required before processing. Multiple improvements in the same processing task do not multiply the charge. Each file in a batch is calculated separately. Downloads and repeat downloads of the completed result do not use more credits. Existing subscriptions and previously purchased credits keep their original purchasing power, renewal price and expiry.
How long are my processed files stored?
Processed files are stored for 30 days for paying users. Download the results you want to keep before they expire.
Can reward credits cover processing and downloading?
Eligible new accounts receive 30 welcome credits. Complete the one-time seven-check-in campaign within 14 days to earn 100 credits in total, including the welcome reward. Each reward expires 30 days after it is granted. Rewards can fund enhancement, noise reduction and vocal or instrument separation, including Stem Splitter at its normal per-type rate. Completed results can be downloaded at no extra credit cost, without paid membership. Rewards cannot fund AI mastering, AI mixing or music generation. If eligible rewards cover the task cost, no purchase is needed. Otherwise, rewards can combine with purchased credits.
